Speaking of revolutionaries and contemporary celebrities, ever notice how much John Adams and Paul Giamatti look alike? Uncanny.

John Adams, prominent framer on the cover of his biography

Paul Giamatti, played "Pig Vomit" in Howard Stern's "Private Parts" with Samuel L.
I saw Goody Sherman with the Devil!

I don't see you (Sherman) fighting guns in school. You know?

This is one of the sneakiest, lowest rhetorical strategies. Rep. Davis makes the claim that since Sherman is spending so much time on fighting the prayer bill, he must not care about the violence in schools. This a false premise and is worthy of a reevaluation of Rep Davis' credentials by her constituency.
Using the same line of logic, why hasn't Rep. Davis been able to push legislation that effectively reduces gun violence? Perhaps she was too busy sponsoring prayer bills that would eventually give her a soapbox to espouse her religious views in public, at the expense of tax-payers.

I'm trying to understand the philosophy that you want to spread in the state of Illinois. This is the Land of Lincoln. This is the Land of Lincoln where people believe in God, where people believe in protecting their children

I don't see the connection between Lincoln and belief in god. Lincoln's religion remains somewhat of a mystery. Lincoln declared himself a Christian, but never belonged to a particular church. His political life was a affected by great changes in the political and physical landscape of the nation. When basic survival, and later the survival of the Union was at stake, religious minutiae took a back seat to earthly demands.
He was an avid reader of Thomas Paine and many believed he shared his idea of deism. As a young man, Lincoln belonged to a study group called the Freethinkers who looked at the Bible critically. He was a strong supporter of the separation of the church and state (which is truly the duty of any President*)
Rep Davis, shouldn't the "Land of Lincoln" be a land that allows a diversity of belief (and non-belief)? Should we not allow skepticism and debate?
When I think of a region of early America with parochial views toward religion, I don't think of men from New Salem, Illinois. I think of men from Salem, Massachusetts.
It's the duty of the President to uphold the Constitution*
**See The Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States

keep reading and spread the word--I know exactly what you mean. The "netroots" didn't take long to buy into the same old political system, one that treats principles and ideology as bad words.
I know that, in the long run, writing posts critical of Senator Obama or Clinton, or the Democratic Party, will probably not help the readership (or my professional life), but I decided a couple years ago I was done with play-pretend, "spin" and partisanship when it compromised core principles.
Hope you stick around--once I get some more users, I'll open up the "diaries" function, and hopefully we can get a good core of people talking.

Just signed up tonight - Hiya. Joined after reading an abbreviated version of some of the points addressed here in a comment over at DK.
For some time now I've watched bloggers I've admired for years descend into painfully ridiculous caricatures of themselves. The last 6 months in particular have been truly disheartening and/or baffling.
Reading this post reminded me that I actually used to agree with things I read on lefty blogs. It reminded me that bloggers from 'my' side were once a lucid and insightful bunch.
I'm LeftOverAmerica at DK, and Redacted at several other blogs (though I rarely say much).
It's late, and having passed braindeath several hours ago I don't have anything substantive to add to any possible discussion of this post - Just wanted to say hi, and thanks.
Keep the sanity coming - it's much appreciated.

A little direct action never hurts.
We will have an open forum for the entire staff during our next professional development meeting.
Change can only occur by directly confronting the agents of the counter-revolution. They don't have the numbers.

http://themoderatevoice.com/po...
"Hillary Clinton Wins Texas Democratic Primary And "Comeback" Narrative"
Here is a perfect example of how the media regards us as a bunch of simpletons.
I loved Rocky (just the first one)and I must admit that I have a soft-spot for some of the John Cusack movies.
However, I would not choose either Sly or John to lead our country out of the mire that its in. Remember the last second-rate actor elected as prez?
Yet again, we are given a process piece that should have no bearing on how we choose our leaders. Hillary will now be painted as a "comeback kid."
I can't wait for her camp to post a montage training video of her on youtube for the masses to consume.
I'm thinking "We Need a Hero" playing in the background as she runs up and down the steps of the Lincoln memorial.
Will it be enough to knock our her Apollo Creed?

When asked about George Bush's plan on keeping troops in Iraq for 50 years, John McCain replied:

Make it 100!
That's reasonable, huh?
